Children's Healthiest Meals Come From School

School meals don’t always get a good press, but a new study is changing that. The study found school food can be the healthiest food a child eats in a day. This research was done between 2003 and 2018, and the nutritional quality of meals improved largely after the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) was passed in 2010. As we know, the HHFKA established new nutrition standards for school meals including offering more fruits and vegetables. This study shows how powerful policy can be in initiating change.
